-What team do you row for?
I row for Pelham Community Rowing Association (PCRA)
-What are some good pre-practice snacks?
Peanut Butter, Chobani, Yoghurt, anything that will give you a protein boost. Avoid sugary things, and drink water, not coffee or soda.
-How can I treat blisters?
If they’re bubbles: Poke a hole in them, like with a needle, at the base and let them drain then cover them until that heals then let them dry out and callous.
If they’re skin peeled up: Pour rubbing alcohol on them periodically. This will hurt but it will help dry the skin which will form a non-painful patch of dry skin. Don’t cover it, bandages seal in moisture which slows healing.
Can I coxswain a lightweight boat if I am not technically a lightweight?
I believe that you can, but you should try to talk to your coach about it. You should, however, be a lightweight if you’re a coxswain, since you’re probably small anyway.
- Any advice for a 2k?
It’s all very mental. Make a goal for yourself in the beginning, and stick to it. Make sure to warm up and stretch out beforehand, have water close-by but do not stop to drink it during the test. Try to get an experienced coxswain to cox you through it, if you can. I start mine: half, half, three quarter, three quarter, power ten, steady state. Make sure that during power tens you do not fly and die, which will kill your split. During the test, don’t think about the pain, or how you’re thirsty or how you’re anerobic. Look at the screen. Let the rest of the world melt away. Focus on form, pull long, strong strokes and drive with your legs. Do not listen to anybody but the coxswain. Once you’re at a steady state, do not overdo yourself and try to go sub two if you know you can’t stay there. Keep yourself where you can, and do not stop, even when you physically can’t. When you’re finished, think of how amazing you are, and hydrate and put on warm clothing.
- How can I get ready for next season during down time?
Keep your muscles limber. Stretch them out and go for a run, or do sprints. Even light jogging will help. If you can, erg. Do erg pieces, even 2ks. Weight lifting will also help. Make sure you don’t get sloppy with your eating. Keep taking in protein, so you can fuel your body.
- Are you the girl who had all that stuff happen to her?
Yeah, that was me. The boat being dropped on me and the losing half my blood volume and yeah that was me.
